At the opening of the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of Can Tho University emphasized that while the Mekong Delta is a major hub for agricultural and aquaculture production, the region is currently facing significant challenges such as climate change, and traditional agricultural models are revealing several limitations.

Therefore, the advancement of smart agriculture is not only an inevitable trend but also a strategic solution to ensure sustainable and secure food supply, effectively adapt to climate change, and enhance international competitiveness.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Vang, Rector of the School of Agriculture, Can Tho University, stated that information technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are indispensable technologies in smart agricultural production. Without IT, it would be difficult to implement smart agriculture effectively.

“Smart agriculture enhances production efficiency, reduces labor requirements, and adapts well to climate change. However, this model demands a highly skilled workforce, which is not suitable for small-scale farming conditions; moreover, the investment cost is very high, requiring involvement from the State or enterprises,” emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Vang.
